New Dome Show and Kids' Free Day at the Science Center!

"A Starry Tale" is the newest dome show at the Center for Earth & Space Science Education at Tyler Junior College. It focuses on the birth of the constellations, patterns formed by the most prominent stars, and explains their relation to the movement of the sun, moon and planets.
Saturday, Nov. 7, is Kids' Free Day at the Center for Earth & Space Science Education at Tyler Junior College.

All children accompanied by a paying adult will receive free general admission.

Visitors can enjoy Sonic Sensation, 14 interactive stations focused on the science of sound and hearing, in the main exhibit hall. They can also check out the rock and meteor collection in the second exhibit hall and see one or more full-dome shows playing that day.

Seven different dome shows will be playing that day, including the newest dome show, "A Starry Tale," which focuses on the birth of the constellations - patterns formed by the most prominent stars - and explains their relation to the movement of the sun, moon and planets.

In ancient times, people saw the patterns of the stars in the sky and associated them with mythological characters and stories. Constellation names were created and have been handed down from generation to generation.

"A Starry Tale" spotlights select constellations and the Greek mythologies associated with them. It's an animation feature that will captivate the imagination of both children and adults. The elaborate, three-dimensional art, vibrant colors and music track of the show make for an immersive, full-dome experience.

Dome shows and start times for Kids' Free Day on Saturday, Nov. 7, include:

* 11 a.m.: "One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure"
* 11:30 a.m.: "Astronaut"
* Noon: "Space Park 360"
* 1 p.m.: "A Starry Tale"
* 2 p.m.: "Dark Universe"
* 3 p.m.: "Tornado Alley"
* 4 p.m.: "Journey to the Stars"

The TJC science center is located at 1411 E. Lake St., on the TJC main campus. Center hours are 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, and 10:30 a.m-4:30 p.m. Saturdays. For details, see the website at www.tjc.edu/cesse or call directly 903-510-2312.
